How Topside Attic Insulation Converse Was Born in Converse
We remember the exact afternoon in late 2016 when we knew Converse needed something different. A homeowner on Seguin Road had called us after two other companies had been out to her attic. She’d paid for more insulation both times, and her upstairs bedroom was still hitting eighty-six degrees by two in the afternoon. We climbed up with a blower door running and found the real problem in under ten minutes: unsealed top plates, a dozen can lights leaking conditioned air straight into the attic, and a bath fan dumping humidity into fiberglass that was doing nothing but holding moisture.
The other companies had blown more Owens Corning over the mess and collected their checks. She’d spent money twice on the wrong fix because nobody had looked at the envelope first. We sealed the penetrations, replaced the wet batts, and watched her blower-door number drop from 3,400 to 2,100 CFM50. Her bedroom held seventy-two degrees the next August afternoon. That night, Wes Okafor sat in our truck outside her house and wrote down what became our founding promise for Converse: we would never sell insulation as a bandage over an unsealed attic. We’d bring the Topside standard here, and we’d show every customer the before-and-after numbers so they could see what they actually bought.
Wes Okafor’s Personal Connection to the Insulation Trade
Wes didn’t start in attics. He started in construction cleanup in San Antonio, hauling debris out of new builds in Terrell Hills and Alamo Heights back when the market was still recovering. The first time he climbed into an attic, it was July, and the air up there was a hundred and twenty degrees and smelled like mouse droppings and old paper. A tradesman who trained us handed him a headlamp and said, “Don’t just look at what’s there. Look at what’s missing.” That phrase stuck.
He spent years learning to read attics the way a mechanic reads an engine bay: following the path of air movement, spotting where fiberglass had turned gray from filtering dust, finding the black streaks on sheathing that meant warm moist air was hitting cold boards every winter morning. The work got under his skin. There’s a particular satisfaction in pulling back a layer of old insulation and finding the story of a house - the handprints of whoever built it, the shortcuts they took, the decades of Texas heat cycling through the same gaps.
If Wes weren’t doing this, he’d probably be back in some form of hands-on building. He talks about attics at dinner. His wife has learned to recognize the particular sigh he makes when he sees a ridge vent installed without a baffle. What gets him out of bed is the same thing that kept him in that first hot attic: the moment when a homeowner understands what was actually wrong, and that they weren’t crazy for thinking their house shouldn’t feel this way. Ten years of doing this work in Bexar County heat has only sharpened that feeling. He’s seen too many people in Converse and Universal City pay twice for the same problem because the first company didn’t seal before they insulated.
Meet Wes Okafor - The Person Behind Every Job

Wes Okafor, Owner & Founder, Topside Attic Insulation Converse
Wes leads every job that carries our name in Converse, Universal City, Live Oak, and the surrounding communities. His training came from years in the field, not from a weekend certification course. He’s worked with GreenFiber loose-fill systems, Johns Manville batts, and every major sealing product on the market, and he knows which combinations actually perform in our local climate. What separates Wes from a corporate franchise technician is simple: he’s the one who wrote your estimate, and he’s the one who checks the blower-door number before his crew packs up.
Outside of work, Wes rebuilds vintage motorcycles - badly, by his own admission, but with stubborn persistence. That same patience shows up in attics. He will sit on a joist and trace an air leak with a smoke pencil for twenty minutes rather than guess. His personal commitment to every customer is direct: if the documented numbers don’t match what we promised, we come back until they do.
Before
AfterOur Promise to Converse Homeowners
We operate under The Haven Standard, and we mean every clause of it.
Clause 1: Have it in writing. Every Converse homeowner gets a flat price, a written scope, and a written warranty before anyone touches their attic. No exceptions. We learned this after watching a neighbor in Windcrest accept a verbal quote that doubled by the time the crew left. That doesn’t happen here.
Clause 2: Arrive on schedule. We give you a real window, a named technician, and a text when we’re on the way. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM. We don’t promise what we can’t deliver.
Clause 3: Verified crews. Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. We don’t send strangers into your home.
Clause 4: Evidence on every job. Photos of what we found. Blower-door readings before and after. You see what you paid for.
Clause 5: No surprises. No door upsell. No “while we’re in here” scope creep. The price on the page is the price you pay.
Our Credentials

- State-licensed insulation contractor
- Insured & bonded
- Years of local experience serving Converse, Universal City, Live Oak, Windcrest, Schertz, Selma, Cibolo, Kirby, Terrell Hills, Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, and San Antonio
- Strong local reputation built on documented results
These credentials matter because attic work happens in your personal space, often while you’re home with your family. A state license means we’ve met Texas requirements for competency in this trade. Insurance and bonding protect your property if something goes wrong. Local experience means we know which Schertz subdivisions have truss designs that trap heat, and which Converse neighborhoods built in the 1980s are still running original fiberglass that’s compressed to half its R-value. When you hire someone to work above your bedrooms, you want more than a friendly voice - you want proof they belong in your home.
Rooted in Converse
We’re based here, not dispatched from some distant office. Wes lives close enough to catch the smell of mesquite smoke from backyard pits on weekend evenings in the Rolling Creek area. We’ve worked in the older homes near Converse City Park and the newer builds creeping toward Cibolo. Our crew knows the difference between the clay-heavy soils that shift foundations in parts of Universal City and the rockier ground near Live Oak, and how those shifts affect attic framing and air sealing over time. We don’t sponsor little leagues or pretend to be from somewhere we’re not. We’re the local team that brought the Topside standard to this market, and we answer to our neighbors for every job we do.
